The Risk Reduction Division is lead by Deputy Chief Dell Sprecher, who is also the Fire Marshal for the City of West Fargo. The division is responsible for:

• Reviewing new building plans for fire safety systems
• Conducting compliance inspections on current commercial, industrial and public assemblies
• Fire investigations
• Fire safety education

In addition to the traditional responsibilities, the division also provides an all hazard approach to community risk reduction. For example, the division partners with social services and other non-governmental organizations to achieve a greater level of service for vulnerable adults and children in our community.  

For super-users of the 911 system, a fire inspector can come and complete a home fire and life safety checklist, refer the resident to other resources to meet their challenges, and provide feedback to the response crews on actions taken.  

Lastly, community outreach has become a large part of the division’s responsibility. Each year, the department is involved in dozens of community outreach projects designed to reach all residents.
